What Is True-to-Color Wedding Photography?
My style of editing is true-to-color wedding photography which means that I use natural light and color. Also, I don’t edit your photos to look glaringly different from the raw images I take. Your photos and colors will appear as they actually are without being overexposed, oversaturated, or drastically altered.
This style of editing is all about drawing your colors out and letting them shine in the spotlight. True to-color editing preserves the authenticity of your day. This style of editing captures the rich shades and hues of your bouquet, your wedding color palette, the vibrancy of your wedding details, etc. It doesn’t feel like you’re looking at images that clearly had a filter applied to them. These images are natural and depict your day exactly as it was.
Also, true-to-color wedding photography can be applied to any photography style. For example, you can have true-to-color photography that is documentary-style, editorial-style, candid, etc. Remember, editing styles aren’t the same as photography styles.

Who Is True-to-Color Photography the Perfect Fit For?
True-to-color photography is a great fit if you want your images to look just like your wedding day, feel timeless, and you want your photos to be a bit more colorful!
However, before you make a final decision on your preferred editing style, I would encourage you to research different styles to figure out which style speaks to you the most.
I would recommend first heading over to Pinterest and creating a board. Then you can start searching different phrases like “light and airy wedding photography”, “cinematic wedding photography”, “true to color wedding photography”, or “wedding editing styles” and start saving the images you love the most.
You’re going to start to notice a common theme with the more images that you save and it’s going to make deciding which editing style you want that much easier.
Outside of just looking at different images on Pinterest, you can also research the different wedding photography styles and what they entail. Be sure to look at different wedding photographers’ work on their respective websites to also get a better idea of which editing style you like the most!

Other Popular Wedding Photography Editing Styles
Here’s an overview of some other wedding photography editing styles you could choose from:
Light and airy
Light and airy is a very popular style in the wedding space. It’s dreamy, and romantic, and tends to exaggerate highlights and desaturate some colors. These are soft, light-filled images and this style focuses on clean and minimal backgrounds and colors.
Dark and moody
Dark and moody images look more muted and dark. Also, this editing style will contrast highlights and shadows. There may even be a cool or warm temperature applied to the photos. These images are deeply expressive, evoke emotions, and emphasize the mood and atmosphere of a scene.
Editorial
An editorial edit creates beautiful, dreamy nostalgic images. Think of the images you see in Vogue or Elle – this style draws inspiration from these high fashion magazines. Your photographer takes images and edits them in a way to convey your love story in a glamorous and elegant manner.

How to Choose Your True-to-Color Wedding Photographer
If you’ve officially decided that you want to work with a true-to-color wedding photographer, here are my top tips on how to find your dream photographer:
Do your research
I strongly recommend looking at more than one photographer when it comes to choosing who you want to work with for your wedding. My advice? Take the time to explore different options! Each photographer who classifies themselves as a true-to-color wedding photographer is going to have their own unique take on this editing style.
Also, when conducting your research make sure that you’re checking out each wedding photographer’s full galleries. If you notice that they don’t have full galleries on their website, reach out and ask them if they’ll send some over to you.
The bottom line is that a website is going to show the best of the best of the photographer’s work, but it’s good to look beyond just the images they are sharing on their website home page or social media.
Book a call
After you’ve taken a look at the full galleries, social media, and website of the photographer you’re considering, reach out and book a call with them. This call is your chance to ask any and all of your questions and also to make sure you vibe with the photographer you’re interested in.
Remember, a photographer can produce absolutely stunning work, but you might not connect, and that’s okay—that’s what this call is for. During your call, you can ask questions like, “Do you bring your own lighting in the event the available light isn’t ideal?” or “What percentage roughly do you shoot candid vs. posed?” or “Can you walk me through your wedding editing style?”
Read their reviews
Before making your final decision on who you’re going to work with, make sure that you also read reviews of previous clients who have worked with the photographer you want. Check out the testimonials they have on their website, their social media, and even Google business page reviews.
